Muscatine Non-Profits Receive Vital Funding from Muscatine Charities
MUSCATINE, Iowa (September 16, 2020) — Non-profit organizations that improve the lives of Muscatine residents have received vital funding as part of a $50,000 donation from Muscatine Charities in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine.
Muscatine-area non-profits we asked to apply for immediate funding from July 21, 2020 – Friday, August 14, 2020. The Muscatine Charities Board of Directors worked together to allocate funds, generously donated by many generous Muscatine community members to Muscatine Charities. In total, 13 community initiatives were funded.
The Muscatine community members who give year-round to Muscatine Charities made this donation possible. Thank you to all who have given in the past and continue to give today. The organizations that have received funding as part of this $50,000 grant make a positive impact on Muscatine daily. Muscatine Charities is proud to help during a time in which our community is at a need due to COVID-19; we are grateful to have the resources, and partnership in the Community Foundation, to try to make a difference in an effective and efficient manner to better this city we love to call home.

Aligned Impact Muscatine will be using the funds to supply students with preschool transportation scholarships.
Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA) will be using the funds for equipment maintenance, supplies, and ensuring the Adult Vision Clinic can remain open. As well as for the Muscatine Domestic Violence Shelter to give local women and children a safe place to flee in a dangerous situation; Funds to support the MCSA Housing Stability Navigators network to keep people in stable housing and avoid homelessness and operations funding will support sheltering programs and ensure programmatic needs are met.
Lutheran Services in Iowa will use the funds to support the program in a variety of area including but not limited to: client assistance, training, and travel.
Muscatine Community School District Parents as Teachers will be using funds for incentives, food/snacks for Parents as Teacher Group Events, and online staff training.
Muscatine Community YMCA will be using the funds to provide scholarships to ensure that everyone can afford a YMCA membership, used to match a trained volunteer with a child one on one to reduce risk factors, to provide year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, funds will provide scholarships to qualifying families to ensure a safe environment before and after school like providing breakfast in the morning and with a snack after school as well as activities and homework assistance.
Riding for Success will use the grant for PPE and to purchase materials to finish our fencing project (gates) and expand our materials for lessons geared toward the outdoors. The main theme of sensory lessons, an example would be a station with a verbal description of an animal; then the rider would visually find the stuffed animal throughout the ring. Remaining funds will be used for a shed for new outdoor activities.
